Oct. 21--Ellis County Commissioners on Monday considered contracts and proposals for road and bridge projects scheduled to be constructed in the next year.
Commissioners approved a construction engineering contract with Ellsworth-based Kirkham Michael for $148,795.47 for a 2-mile stretch of Old U.S. Highway 40. The contract will be forwarded to the Kansas Department of Transportation for final approval.
Bids for construction on the highway from Canterbury Road to 280th Avenue are scheduled to be let on Nov. 19 with actual construction slated for April at the latest.
