WASHINGTON, Oct. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- The International Brotherhood of Teamsters announced today that it will launch the first stage of an international campaign against Volkswagen this weekend, starting with five of VW's ten highest-volume U.S. dealerships.
The Teamster-VW dispute erupted over VW's abrupt decision in late August to abandon its operations at the Port of Wilmington, dislocating 340 Teamsters who had served the company for up to 18 years.
"Volkswagen is destroying family-wage jobs in America and ripping off taxpayer subsidies," said Teamsters President Ron Carey. "They're betraying America and we're going to hold them accountable."
