WHEN footballing legend George Hardwick developed dementia his wife Jennifer vowed she would never put him in a home.
She struggled to care for George alone, but five months before he died she realised they needed help.
"Nobody wants to put a loved one in a care home," said Jennifer, of Yarm.
"But it comes to a stage where you have to do it.
"And dementia is such a cruel illness.
I was lucky that George knew who I was until the end."
