Article: Value of newborn screening taught among pregnant Caloocan mothers.

MANILA, Oct. 23 (PNA) The Caloocan City Health Department (CCHD) conducted recently "Buntis Congress" that informed expectant mothers the value of newborn screening.

CCHD officer-in-charge Dr, Raquel So-Sayo told the 350 pregnant mothers present in the seminar, that newborn screening is a simple blood test done to find out if the newborn has a congenital metabolic disorder that may lead to mental retardation and even death if let untreated.

She said that the test is to ensure that all parents of newborn babies may know if their infants have any abnormality in order to provide them an opportunity or window for early treatment.
