Oct. 24--ST. CLOUD, Minn. -- As soon as the Duluth East boys soccer team showed up for practice Wednesday afternoon at Public Schools Stadium, wind blew thick, black smoke from a preplanned house fire across the street and over the stadium. But the smoke was dissipated by a steady rainfall that allowed the Greyhounds to practice in clean air.
Duluth East put out another fire Thursday night. The Greyhounds responded to a late St. Cloud Cathedral goal by scoring themselves in the final minutes to win 2-1 in a Minnesota Class A state tournament quarterfinal game at Husky Stadium. Mitchell Johnson's crossing attempt was headed ...
