Article: A community comes together for solar: when Al Gore explained to the world what our reliance on coal, oil and gas was doing to the planet, solar power suddenly seemed very attractive. It seemed obvious that a community could benefit from a solar bulk-buy. No one was organising one, so we did it ourselves.

MY MATE BILL AND I had just started a local sustainability group called SEE-Change (Society, Environment, Economy) and we did a pamphlet-drop around our suburbs asking if anyone was interested in solar. One-hundred-and-eighty people put their hands up. Knowing the interest was high, Bill and I emailed every solar provider in Australia inviting them to be part of our fabulous plan.
We decided to approach local suppliers on the basis that they have an incentive to treat their customers well. We finally selected Armada Solar because it offered the best prices and the most staff, and we negotiated prices based on volume supplied.
