If you listen to enough sea survival stories, people will tell you they worried because they didn't know the battery life of their EPIRB; they didn't know if the EPIRB was really working; or they were holding
onto the EPIRB's antenna the entire time they were in the water. (And possibly from the latter that the Coast Guard had a hard time homing in on them.)
ACR Electronics has spent a fair amount of time listening to stories like these. "We've heard these gems of wisdom over and over and thought we could work a display into the EPIRB to allow the user to develop a comfort level with the beacon," says ACR's Chris Wahler.
