From Sarah Palin to Albert Einstein, the face of pumpkin carving is no longer just cut-out eyes, a triangular nose and a crooked smile. With a little inspiration, ingenuity, patience and plenty of elbow grease, pumpkin carving enthusiasts in the area are making creations that traditional jack-o'-lanterns can't hold a candle to.
Each fall, the Reckners' house in Oxford is transformed into "The Pumpkin House," a place where thousands of Big Macks and 1,000-plus-pound Atlantic Giant pumpkins are feverishly cut, gutted, shaped and scraped around the clock and turned into works of art for the annual Jack-o'-Lantern Spectacular.
