Abstract
Declining populations of frogs and salamanders in the United States are evident with the creation of new state regulations in many areas. The effects of biotic homogenization reflected in the loss of biodiversity are suggested as the leading cause of emerging infectious disease and extinction of species, especially noted in amphibian life. Thin-skinned amphibians have a predisposition to absorbing contaminants and are acutely sensitive to environmental insults.
