The Metropolitan St. Louis Sewer District (MSD) has an ongoing program to mitigate flooding in the southern section of the city of St. Louis. A part of the program includes a stormwater-relief tunnel installation. Recently, MSD contracted with Affholder Inc. to construct a 9-foot-diameter horizontal stormwater-relief tunnel approximately 100 feet below grade in South St. Louis, Mo. Included in the scope of work are drop inlet shafts to introduce storm water into the tunnel.
