Jason Jacob kept the biggest pregame speech of this season brief.
As his Coon Rapids boys' soccer team prepared to face Anoka last Tuesday with a state tournament appearance at stake, Jacob said, "'We haven't lost at home all season, so how can you show up and not win tonight when it matters this much?'"
Jacob's address, while short, went a long way to illustrate the Cardinals' journey this season. They began as hopeful underdogs. They became a strong team no one could beat at home. And they learned to balance ability and humility.
