Article: Coon Rapids finds its way back in girls' soccer.(NEWS)

After last Tuesday's victory over Anoka, the Coon Rapids girls' soccer team crowded around its section championship trophy and waited for the cameras to start flashing. And waited.

Earlier this decade, everyone knew the drill because the Cardinals qualified for the Class 2A state tournament in 2003, 2004 and 2005. A two-season absence left parents a little slow on the trigger and, more important, cost the program much of its institutional memory.

"We're down to two kids who played in a state tournament," coach Jeff DeJoy said. "We can't tell as many stories about going to state, and it's harder to hand down that belief system." ...
