It was an excellent idea of the National Gallery in Trafalgar Square to counter the Tate's hugely successful Cezanne exhibition with one devoted to the works of Hilaire Germain Edgar Degas. These are late works. 'After Impressionism' is devoted almost entirely to the female form in pastel, charcoal, oil and bronze.
Hyped by The Times newspaper who, together with Evian and SBC support this event, we learn the responses of various people: The sculptor, Sir Anthony Caro: 'It knocked me out'.
