RELIEF PAY FOR AUSTRALIAN DROUGHT-HIT FARMER MAY END IN 2010: PC

CANBERRA - Exceptional circumstances relief payments for farmers affected by drought should be phased out by the end of 2010, a draft report from the Australian Productivity Commission says.

The report recommends drought assistance schemes be overhauled to provide more equitable relief for all farmers, not just those in areas declared as having exceptional circumstances.
