A new role is being seen more frequently on the employment discrimination stage - it is called "post-traumatic stress disorder." This disorder is not new, but it is new in the employment discrimination area. Post-traumatic stress disorder has been recognized by the medical profession for decades, particularly in wartime, when it was referred to as "shell shock" or "combat fatigue." In the past 30 years or so, the diagnosis has sometimes been extended to victims of violent situations, such as kidnappings, attacks and disasters, as well as to those suffering from a life-threatening disease.
