When it comes to the election of a state Supreme Court justice in the six-county Fifth Judicial District, geography may play more of a role than politics.
Historically, the district has kept judges stationed in each of the six counties (Onondaga, Oswego, Oneida, Jefferson, Herkimer and Lewis) and there had been a tendency by both main political parties to run home-county candidates in those races.
