Oct. 31--Rising uranium prices on the world market have prompted U.S. Energy Corp. to seek federal approval to restart its Shootaring Canyon uranium mill near Ticaboo in Garfield County.
"We believe the demand will warrant a price that will allow us to operate at a profit," said John L. Larsen, president and chief executive officer of the Riverton, Wyo.-based company.
U.S. Energy plans next year to begin processing ore that was stockpiled following the temporary closure of the mill in 1982 after only two months of operation. It was closed because of a sudden drop in uranium prices after a small uranium boom in the late 1970s.
