Oct. 31--The economy and the strength of negative campaigning both emerge as U.S. Senate issues as voters narrow in on Tuesday's election.
In a race that could see $60 million spent by candidates and outsiders, U.S Sen. Norm Coleman and Democrat challenger Al Franken continue wage war on both. Republican Coleman voted for the $700 billion bailout of the financial industry, a bill that Franken said he opposed. Democrat Sens. Barack Obama, the Democratic presidential nominee, and Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota both supported the bailout bill, Coleman said Thursday in an interview.
