CHICAGO (FNS) -- NikeTown has bumped off the Art Institute as the number-one tourist attraction in Chicago.
The three-story Nike showcase on Michigan Avenue -- the chain's largest until the Manhattan store opens -- attracts over a million people a year.
The store opened in July 1992 and shares space with the similarly interactive Sony store in the former Saks location at 699 North Michigan and reportedly is generating an annual volume that exceeds $25 milion.
Together, the two stores brought "retail theater" to the upper-crust shopping street, along with hordes of youthful shoppers.
