The Islamic Republic was humiliated Friday when only 17 percent of the world's countries supported its bid for membership on the UN Security Council.
The vote exposed as hollow the regime's repeated claims that the vast bulk of the world's countries supports it against the depredations of the major powers.
Running against Japan for a two-year term representing Asia on the Security Council, all 192 members of the UN were qualified to vote. Iran got only 32 votes to Japan's 158.
