Nov. 5--Surfing the Internet, sending electronic mail and getting caught in the World Wide Web will be as easy as hitting your remote control, with a new device being launched by Thomson Consumer Electronics.
The device won't be the first of its kind -- both Philips/Magnavox and Sony Corp. have been selling similar set-top devices for about a month. Thomson's version is expected to reach stores next spring.
But Thomson officials say this $300 product has the potential to outdo their widely popular 18-inch dish RCA Digital Satellite System, which will reach 3 million in sales by the end of this year.
