Genentech Inc. has submitted a supplemental biologics license application to the FDA for Avastin (bevacizumab) as a therapy for people with previously treated glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer.
If accepted by the FDA, the application would be considered for an accelerated approval, allowing provisional approval based on preliminary evidence suggesting clinical benefit. If ultimately approved, Avastin could become the first targeted treatment for glioblastoma, South San Francisco-based Genentech said.
