Hollywood leases closed military facilities

In 1989, Century City-based Orion Pictures Corp. approached U.S. Navy officials with an attractive proposal: They wanted to film a Demi Moore movie called "Navy SEALS" at the soon-to-close Fort Ord Army Base near Monterey, and were prepared to pay a nice lease fee for the privilege.

Navy officials, however, wanted to see the script first. When they decided the story wasn't very flattering to the Navy, they told Orion to forget it. So the filmmakers went to a non-military facility in Florida instead.
