COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.--Nov. 5--When actor Michael Keaton wanted handcrafted chairs for his home in Montana, he called a Colorado Springs furniture maker.
Glen T. Luther, 1010 Farragut Ave., 447-1095, modeled Keaton's eight oval-back Windsor chairs after ones crafted by English wheelwrights in the 18th century.
His work is reflective of a bygone era when crafting a piece of furniture was a labor of love. He needs up to eight weeks to make each chair, table, sideboard or bench.
Luther uses the same types of wood and warm-color finishes and joinery techniques (parts fitted together without nails and screws) used by Celtic craftsmen ...
