RUGS STORES GO FOR TOTAL-HOME APPEAL
"Rugs sell furniture. Furniture sells rugs."
That's the philosophy of Peter Spirer, president of Horizon Pacific Ltd., the Atlanta store that has been transformed from a handmade rug business into a total home furnishings retailer.
Rug specialists are beginning to explore the potential for turning rug stores into multi-merchandise bazaars for decorative home fashions. Einstein-Moomjy in Paramus, N.J., and Kenneth Mink in Wilmington, Del., are two other rug merchants making a major expansion into furnishings.
