Comparatists Wendy B. Faris and Lois Parkinson Zamora have deftly conjured up an anthology on magic realism that is a concrete example of one of their central theses: namely, "Realism intends its vision of the world as a singular version, as an objective (hence universal) representation of natural and social realities . . . [while magic realism's] program is not centralizing, but eccentric: it creates space for interactions, for diversity." What could be a neater "textualization," a more interesting critical object than this? And where could one find a better, more exciting example of marvelous diversity and pulsatingly different visions than in this book?
