Asia/pacific paint demand, including that of India, is estimated at more than 5.2 million m.t./year and is expected to grow 5.7%/year to 2000. After the turn of the century the market should expand more rapidly and reach about 10 million m.t. in 2005. Not withstanding the general interest in Asia/Pacific, most current attention is on China and India.
These two markets are similar in many respects, with relatively low per capita consumption compared with industrialized countries. There are, however, some fundamental differences in their paints industries. In China, architectural paints account for 32% of total production, in India 77%.
