BOSTON - U.S. Sen. John F. Kerry declared victory over Harwich Republican Jeff Beatty, winning re-election to a fifth term in the Senate as speculation mounted over whether he may be named to a top post in an Obama administration.
Mr. Kerry was leading Mr. Beatty by 65.5 percent to 31 percent in early statewide results with 81 percent of precincts reporting. He had 1,564,208 votes to Mr. Beatty's 749,564.
Mr. Kerry said he was "humbled" by the victory and he promised voters he would return to Washington, D.C., "to continue the fight to win back our future and honor your faith in me," as he and his supporters packed the ...
