Pirates and explorers, Indian warriors and railroad magnates, literary giants and small-time entrepreneurs -- all have played a part in the story of the 800 "little islands" of the Florida Keys.
Ten thousand years ago, life began for the coral reef which is today the only living reef in the nation. Located just off Key Largo is John Pennekamp State Park, an underwater wonderland that's home to 650 varieties of tropical fish, 40 species of coral and a 17 ft. underwater statue of "Christ of the Deep" - a replica of the famous "Christ of the Abyss" submerged off the shores of Genoa.
