The New York Yankees rallied to capture their first Major League Baseball pennant in 18 years by defeating the defending champion Atlanta Braves 4 games to 2 in a World Series marked by unusual road wins and exciting comeback victories.
The series began with the Braves winning the first two games in New York but turned surprisingly competitive when the Bronx Bombers took three straight games in Atlanta and showed the world why they deserved to be in the Fall Classic. With a 3-games-to-2 lead, the Yankees rocked Atlanta ace Greg Maddux, maybe the best pitcher in baseball, by taking Game 6 and with it winning their 23rd world championship.
