ABOARD A KC-10 OVER THE ATLANTIC -- The Air Force plans to upgrade the KC-10 Extender's avionics suite to keep the dual role cargo and tanker aircraft flying well into the 21st century, aircrew members told Defense Daily recently.
"We're going to be getting Global Positioning Systems (GPS), multi-functional displays, digital fuel monitors, Inmarsat receivers, an enhanced radar system, and a more accurate internal navigation system (INS) starting next year through 2000," said Capt. Greg Dipenta, a KC-10 instructor pilot assigned to the 2nd Air Refueling Squadron (ARS), McGuire AFB, N.J., in a trans-Atlantic flight.
