CHAMPION bowler Darren Burnett of Arbroath has been named Angus sports personality of the year in recognition of his sporting achievements during 2006.

He received his latest honour at the 11th annual Angus Sports Awards ceremony held in the Reid Hall, Forfar, on Tuesday evening.

The event allowed Angus Sports Council to again take the opportunity to honour the commitment, achievements and dedication of individuals and teams involved in sport across Angus.
