Parts 1 and 2 of this series looked at the normal anatomy and physiology of the spinal cord and what happens when it gets injured. Part 3 focuses on researchers who are trying to repair and restore function after spinal-cord injury (SCI). Space does not allow a detailed and comprehensive review of all SCI research. Instead, this article highlights some major advances, describes in general terms current research strategies, and gives representative examples of work being done in those areas.
