Let the sun in
If you want to feel sunnier, you need light, and lots of it. Indeed, researches estimate that as many as 10 million Americans suffer from seasonal affective disorder, a form of depression, and that most of us have some reaction to the loss of light in winter. Some symptoms: "Increased fatigue, difficulty awakening, weight gain, and a tendency toward gloom," says Michael Terman, Ph.D., director of the Winter Depression Program at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center in New York City. Result? We look drawn, tired, pale.
