FOR the people of Graignamanagh to draw down desperately needed funds to refurbish the shoddy community hall in the town they must first pay over e14,000 to an absentee landlord with a questionable legal title to the building which dates back two centuries.
The townspeople are being urged to agree to the compromise rather than go to court and engage solicitors and barristers to prove that the community owns the Abbey Hall.
A plebiscite will be held in the next month to get the agreement of the local people.
It all started in 1861 when the late Lady Annaly gave the property to the people of Graignamanagh as a gift to be used as a school.
