138 face dole queue while plant goes into liquidation
GALWAY workers were in shock yesterday after a metal manufacturing company announced it is set to close with the loss of 138 jobs.
APW Galway Limited in Oranmore broke the news that it is going into liquidation to employees at a meeting yesterday morning.
And the Government was warned that urgent action is needed to avoid a return to the unemployment levels of the 1980s, when dole figures soared above 300,000.
Live Register statistics released this week revealed that the number of people signing on has already risen above 250,000 for the first time in over a decade.
