SCOTTISH Premier League bosses were criticised yesterday for advising clubs to hold a minute's applause rather than a silence to mark Remembrance weekend.
The controversial guidance has been circulated to SPL clubs ahead of the 90th anniversary of the end of the First World War on Tuesday.
The practice of clapping at matches to show respect for dead footballing figures is becoming increasingly common. It is thought to have come about because silences were too often marred by rowdy fans.
But last night war veterans said the SPL move was a 'depressing' commentary on the inability of modern generations to honour the war dead properly.
