SDLP MLA for South Antrim Thomas Burns has welcomed the news that Aer Lingus intend to begin flights from Belfast International Airport direct to London Heathrow in August.
The carrier plans to operate four flights a day in each direction.
Mr. Burns commented: "This is excellent news for travellers, especially the business community. The reinstatement of this route is something I have long called for. When British Airways suspended their service and all traffic headed to George Best Belfast City Airport the negative commercial impact was widely felt in Antrim and across Northern Ireland as a whole."
