LAS VEGAS, Nov. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- The Microelectronics Group of Lucent Technologies (NYSE: LU), continuing its long-standing business relationship with Hewlett-Packard Company (NYSE: HWP) (HP), today announced that it is providing modem chip sets to HP for use in its new family of home personal computers.
The chip set can transmit data at up to 33.6 kbps -- the fastest modem speed now attainable over regular telephone lines using commercially available chip sets. It is expected that by early 1997 the new version of the Apollo(A) modem chip set will be capable of transmitting data at 56 kilobits per second (kbps) over regular analog phone lines.
