A MONTROSE woman - known as the matriarch of the Montrose Seals - has been honoured for her dedication to swimming at the Angus Sports Awards 2006.
Sophia Barclay, of Gibson Place, was presented witht the Angus College Service to Sport Award and the SportScotland local services to sport award at a ceremony in Forfar's Reid Hall.
Sophia (76) has been teaching swimming in the area since moving to Montrose from Glasgow in 1957.
She was an original member of the Seals committee and still teaches at Montrose pool.
