Montrose got their league campaign underway on Saturday with a trip to Scone to play Northern at the picturesque setting of Doo'cot Park.
Montrose were almost at full strength only missing vice-captain Greig Soutar, sidelined with mumps.
On winning the toss captain Grant Hutchison decided to insert the opposition on what looked like a good track in near perfect batting conditions.
Montrose however soon found that getting wickets was not going to be easy as they failed to make a quick breakthrough with the opening pairing of Hornsey and Thorogood.
