It's been over ten years since the federal government introduced the Federal Child Support Guidelines, yet parents continue to battle one another in the courts over child support issues. While there are a number of highly successful court-annexed dispute resolution initiatives which do assist in resolving some of these matters, there is no evidence that the number of cases has actually declined, notwithstanding the Guidelines. On the contrary, the number of cases, as well as the number of unrepresented litigants appearing in those cases, appears to be increasing.
