Nov. 10--It may have been cold outside, but the competition was smoking hot Sunday inside the Burlington Moose Lodge.
Cooks lined up with ladles gripped firmly in hand to sling some spicy grub in hopes of being named champion of the lodge's first, and far from last, Chili Challenge.
About 90 people attended the event, helping to raise $200 and fill two-and-a-half 30-gallon tubs with non-perishable food items, both of which will be donated to local food pantries, said lodge administrator Dan Wagner.
The event was open to the public, but the crowd was dominated by lodge members.
