An A.M. Best survey of 1,244 industry insiders from Sept. 5-9 found 64% supported Arizona Republican Sen. John McCain and nearly 34% were for Illinois Democrat Sen. Barack Obama.
The poll showed McCain's support to be slightly stronger in the life/health sector, where he led Obama 67% to 32%. His lead in the property/casualty sector was 65% to 33%. Obama fared better among those who said they worked in multiline or other lines of insurance, but even there McCain still enjoyed a 51% to 42% lead.

But asked how well their chosen candidate understands the insurance business, just 19% of both McCain and Obama supporters said ...
