Reacting to widespread criticism and unintended consequences resulting from implementation of the State's new lab personnel licensure law, the New York Legislature amended the law this July. Among other changes, the amendments extend the "grandparenting" period for technologists and technicians who do not meet all of the education and/or certification standards, and create new specialty categories of licensure.
Many laboratorians either currently working in New York, or who may want to move to New York to practice, were not able to apply for licensure by the original grandparenting deadline of September 1, 2007. The new law extends the period to apply for ...
