THE CHEMICAL INDUSTRY'S improved environmental performance and increasing public trust--dividends of the Responsible Care initiative--have helped usher in a new era of "maturity and progress," says a top industry official.
J. Lawrence Wilson, chairman and CEO of Rohm and Haas Company, called on a gathering of 300 chemical industry leaders in Washington last week to increase their efforts to achieve sustainable development, support a large new industry health and environmental research program, and become more active in the policy-making process.
