It's been a banner year for graduates of the nation's maritime academies. The class of 2008 has had little trouble finding high-paying jobs at sea or on shore, with more of them opting for careers in the brownwater sector.

Newly released data from the U.S. Maritime Administration shows that 95 percent of the 2008 graduates with merchant marine licenses from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy and the six state academies have found employment in the maritime trades or with the U.S. military.

The Great Lakes Maritime Academy reports full employment for its graduates, and California Maritime Academy expects all its graduates to have maritime-related jobs ...
