Ahern is defiant as he diverts funds to fight crime
FUNDING for the Equality Authority and the Human Rights Commission has been diverted by the Government into the frontline fight against crime.
Justice Minister Dermot Ahern last night defended the move and said he made no apologies for cutting budgets to ensure resources continued to be made available to the agencies combating crime.
"In an ideal world we would not be talking about such cutbacks but we have to be realistic," he told the Irish Independent.
