The antilock braking system (ABS) has been around many years and some age-related faults are beginning to surface.

Most of us know the basics of ABS. It senses when a wheel is about to lock up and decreases fluid pressure to that wheel and stops it from skidding while allowing the driver to maintain control even under hard braking and on slippery surfaces.

For safety reasons, and in the event of ABS failure, normal braking systems will take over.

In other words, ABS overrides the conventional hydraulic setup when called upon to do so.

Sensors monitor wheel speed and send signals to the electronic control unit.
