SACRAMENTO _ Lou Correa was told last year he needed a reality check.
When Correa first considered running for the California Assembly, Democratic strategists, Hispanic activists and even friends cautioned him privately that beating a white Republican incumbent in Orange County's 69th Assembly District would be next to impossible.
Correa ignored the skeptics, rolled up his sleeves and went to work on his first attempt to win political office _ coming within a mere 93 votes of proving the naysayers wrong and beating Republican incumbent Jim Morrissey.
